NEXT US TOO MEETING - TUESDAY
MAY 13, 2003 - ALSO CANCELLED!
Our monthly meeting has been
cancelled for the second consecutive month because we are still unable to
use the William Osler Health Center Auditorium, and we do not know when the
Hospital will return to normal operation.
In the meantime, your Steering Committee members are actively seeking
alternative premises for our meetings.
The difficulties encountered are threefold:
1. Capacity of room
2. Reasonable cost
3. Convenient location
We anticipate that within the next few weeks suitable premises will be
secured. Should any of you, whether a member or an interested supporter,
know of a promising facility, we would be very happy to check it out.
Our major concern through this difficult period is with any potential new
members that might require our help and guidance. To all of our regular
members we ask for your indulgence whilst these restrictions are imposed
upon us all.
Rest assured that it is our intention to hold a meeting in June and we do
appreciate your continuing support. Thank you!

FINANCE
Only 118 of 136 active members have paid the $10
subscription fee for this year. Although our operating costs have risen
steadily, we have not raised this fee since 1994. If you have not already
done so, please send your cheque, payable to US TOO!, to Gerry Brunjes, 8
Duke Road, Bramalea, L6T 3K1. A receipt will be sent, if requested.
AWARENESS
As always, Ian Smith is working hard to raise public awareness of Prostate
Cancer in the community. If you wish to help or have an idea for an
Awareness event, contact Ian Smith, (905) 454-3880, e-mail
iclacewood@globalserve.net.
RELAY FOR LIFE
So far, only 6 walkers have joined our team for the Canadian Cancer
Society's annual Relay For Life. We require at least 10 team members to
participate in this overnight noncompetitive relay. There is no registration
fee for survivor teams, but each member is expected to raise at least $100
in pledges. The Relay will be held at the Caledon Fairgrounds starting on
Friday, June 20th and finishing Saturday morning. It is a great experience,
so please consider joining the effort. All proceeds go to fight our common
foe - CANCER.
If you don't fancy a night out on the track, please sign up for the
"Survivors' Victory Lap" on the Friday evening. All of our members who have
walked the Victory Lap in past years have also enjoyed the Survivor
Reception, the Opening Ceremony and other activities. No cost to attend; we
are truly honoured guests.
To join the Us Too! Relay for Life Team, call either: Jim Dorsey
(905) 453-3038, e-mail jdorsey@sympatico.ca or
Ian Smith (905) 454-3880, e-mail iclacewood@globalserve.net.
The excellent Cancer Society web site, www.cancer.ca
has full details on the Relay. At that site, you can pledge in support of
our team. You can join the Us Too! Team on-line, but you will have to pay
the $10 registration fee, so please talk to Jim or Ian instead.
"HUMOUR"
HOW WELL DOES COLD WATER CLEAN?
John went to visit his 90-year-old grandfather in a very secluded, rural
area of Ontario. On his first morning there, his grandfather prepared
breakfast consisting of eggs and bacon.
John noticed a filmy substance on his plate, so he asked his grandfather,
"Are these plates clean?" His grandfather replied, "Those plates are as
clean as cold water can get them, so go on and finish your meal."
Later, while eating the hamburgers his grandfather had made for lunch, John
noticed tiny specks around the edge of his plate, and streaks of matter that
looked like dried egg yokes. So he asked again, "Are you sure these plates
are clean?" Without looking up from his hamburger, his grandfather says, "I
told you before, those dishes are as clean as cold water can get them. Now
don't ask me about it anymore!"
Later that afternoon, as John was on his way out to get the paper, the dog
started to growl and wouldn't let him pass. John called, "Grandfather, your
dog won't let me out." Without diverting his attention from the exciting
hockey game he was watching, John's grandfather yelled, "Coldwater! Move!"
