NOVEMBER SPEAKER:
Our guest speaker in November was Tanya Giaquinto, B.A., B.A.Sc.,RD from
Sunnybrook & Women's College Health Sciences Centre.
Tanya gave an excellent presentation and has promised to come back again on an
annual basis. We have a copy of her presentation and will work on making
excerpts for the membership.
FUTURE EVENTS:
JANUARY 9TH, 2001 - The play " No Big Deal ? " will be held at the
Lester B. Pearson Theatre. Your Finance Officer, Gerry Brunjes and Daniela
Brancatella of the Canadian Cancer Society are completing the details for a
great evening.
Don't miss it! We will be selling tickets on December 12th and also looking
for four volunteers,two ticket takers & two ushers to just hand out programs.
We have attached an information sheet .
FEBRUARY 13TH - This is members night to take the "mike." We want
to hear your survivor story. If you would like to participate, please let me
know.
We are working on the next few months as I type. Please let Fred or myself
know if you have any suggestions for future speakers.
NEW MEMBER MEETINGS:
The November new member meeting and the last one being held at Shoppers World
Brampton was a busy one. Four new members were interviewed by coordinator Alec
Gardiner and the new member committee. Joining our group are Charles & Sylvia
Asao, Vic & Pat Henderson, Garry & Nancy Lang and Murray Laidlaw. The next new
member meeting will be held Wednesday December 6th in the auditorium at the
hospital and will commence at 6:00 p.m.
All future new member meetings will be held in the small meeting room adjacent
to the auditorium on the same night as regular meetings, only starting at 6:00
p.m. First time visitors may remain with the orientation team or join the
regular meeting in progress. There will be NO new member meeting on Tuesday
December 12th. So far in 2000 the doctors have referred 33 men to us, for
which we are grateful. Hopefully, we are able to comfort and assist these men
and their wives during this very difficult period. Each and everyone of you
know, you have been there.
MEMBERSHIP:
We still have some annual $10 membership fees not paid, but we are getting
there. We have received payment from 74 of our 110 members.This fee pays for
this bulletin, envelopes, and stamps for the year. Your payment is
appreciated.
WHAT'S AHEAD ?
What can you expect in the coming months ? Right now we are working on special
- coloured name tags by treatment. ( Promised for February) Meetings
with companies in the area, to plan presentations on prostate cancer
awareness. The setting up of sub committees to carry out various tasks and
report back to the chairman and steering committee, re: public relations, a
charitable golf tournament, prostate cancer awareness etc. Also, more of you
will receive a copy of this by e-mail. If you would prefer to receive it this
way, please let me know.
DRIVERS NEEDED
Last, but not least, the Canadian Cancer Society - Brampton Unit are looking
for " volunteer " drivers. If you would like to help, please contact Janice
