Friendly ties.
Jessica Hoach, owner of Eikonic House of Barbers, fixes Jim Dorsey's tie which is an exact replica of the logo for prostate cancer.
Hoach is a champion who supports events that bring about awareness of the disease. The 2012 Peel Region Father's Day Walk/Run for Cancer will be held Sunday, June 17 at Chinguacousy Park.

This Father’s Day, support the men in your life.
Brampton residents can join in creating awareness about prostate cancer and help raise money for research and programs by taking part in the 2012 Peel Region Father’s Day Walk/Run.
The 5K walk/run by the Prostate Cancer Canada (PCC) is happening 10 a.m., Sunday, June 17 at Chinguacousy Park. Registration starts at 8 a.m.
When Brampton resident Jim Dorsey, 68, was diagnosed with prostate cancer 13 years ago, he experienced no symptoms or warning signs. One day he was fine, the next day he started bleeding. After undergoing radiation and hormone treatments, Dorsey was pronounced cancer free early this year.
“The Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) is one of the two things we have to test for the possibility of prostate cancer,” said Dorsey, co-chair for the Peel Father’s Day Walk.
“The thing you should know about this (cancer) is there’s at least 24 different types of prostate cancer. When I was first diagnosed in 1999, people didn’t know how to spell prostate. Now, there’s awareness and it’s wonderful.”
Last year, some 300 people showed up for the Father’s Day event and helped raise $20,000. Nationally, Prostate Cancer Canada, raised $1 million.
The walk/run this year will be dedicated to all victims of prostate cancer including Bramptonian Kim Clout, who died last month.
Even though the PSA test is not covered by the Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP) and costs $30, men—40 years and older — should have a discussion with their doctor about their prostate cancer risk and undergo a PSA test and other forms of early detection. Over 90 per cent of prostate cancer cases are curable, if detected and treated early, said Dorsey.
“Prostate cancer is the most common cancer to afflict men,” said Rebecca von Goetz, executive vice president, PCC. “So, it’s important that Canadians are aware of this fact and start talking about it. In the past, men were somewhat reluctant to talk about cancers that are below the belt. So, events like this celebrate the men in our lives and hopefully get people talking openly about it.”
According to PCC, 1 in 7 Canadian men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer; On average, 11 Canadian men die from the disease every day.
Dorsey is part of a support group that meets the second Tuesday of every month at the Terry Miller Recreation Centre, 1295 Williams Pkwy. September to June at 7 p.m.
